Skull Orchard

SEASON 2- EPISODE 2

There’s almost a novel’s worth of information that can be said about Jon Langford and his musical/artistic history to this point. I, however, am not a historian and so for details and dates and whatnot I refer you to the definitive resource of all things modern- crowdsourced, peer evaluated, anonymous online postings (wikipedia.org/wiki/Jon_Langford)

What I can say is this- I knew about Jon Langford long before I came to Chicago. I knew he was in the Mekons, I knew about the Pine Valley Cosmonauts and The Waco Brothers, and I knew he was with Bloodshot Records (my personal midwestern holy grail of what artistic integrity and hard work look like). I didn’t know much about Skull Orchard per se but this is what I know now. Skull Orchard has a familiar and sparse folk sound but it’s framed by a haunting and eerie sense of desperation that seems to creep in around the edges. By definition- the best kind of folk music.

Long story sort of short, we’re very happy to have had the opportunity to shoot with this band of fantastic musicians and all around good people. If you’re not yet familiar with Skull Orchard or Jon’s work I highly recommend getting steeped in it. And if your mind isn’t blown by all the musical goodness then I direct you to look into Jon’s art which explores the history and key figures of American roots, country, and popular music.

And I can assure you there was none of this swooning on the shoot day, we like to keep it real professional in the studio.
